Febuxostat-80 mg Tablets – Febuxostat 80 mg Tablets is a prescription medication to treat and manage chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout. Each film-coated tablet contains 80 mg of febuxostat, an effective xanthine oxidase inhibitor. Febuxostat is especially helpful for those intolerant to allopurinol or for whom allopurinol is ineffective.
Each film-coated tablet contains: Febuxostat-80 mg
By selectively blocking the enzyme xanthine oxidase that converts hypoxanthine and xanthine into uric acid, Febuxostat blocks uric acid synthesis by a more than substantial amount. The reduction in blood uric acid levels now inhibits the deposition of urate crystals and thus prevents the onset of symptoms of gout.
There are mild side effects of Febuxostat, which are usually well tolerated. However, some side effects may occur:
Regular evaluation of liver enzymes is encouraged, given that Febuxostat may adversely affect liver enzymes in some cases.
One must be cautious in administering Febuxostat to patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, for in some instances, the occurrence of cardiovascular events has been reported.
Febuxostat may spuriously increase stormy attacks of gout; hence, anti-inflammatory prophylaxis is preferable during the initial few months of therapy.
Febuxostat can be used in cases of mild to moderate renal impairment, but perhaps with dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring.
Always take Febuxostat under supervision. Do not treat yourself or discontinue the use of this drug without your healthcare provider’s advice.
