Duloxetine Gastro-Resistant Tablets IP 20mg is a prescription medication used to treat major depressive disorder, due to anxiety disorder, diabetic neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic musculoskeletal pain. Duloxetine is in a class of medications called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). The gastro-resistant coating of Duloxetine prevents the medication from breaking down in the stomach so it can be absorbed in the intestine. This protects the coating from the acidic conditions of the stomach and lowers irritation to the gastrointestinal system and optimizes absorption.
Duloxetine works by increasing the amount of two natural chemicals in the brain called serotonin and norepinephrine, that help control emotion and perception of pain. Duloxetine acts to restore levels of these neurotransmitters in the body and alleviates depression, general anxiety, and chronic pain.
Although most people take Duloxetine without any problems, a few may experience some of the following side effects:
Dry mouth or nausea
Take Duloxetine 20mg exactly as prescribed by your physician. Usually, it is recommended to take Duloxetine once or twice a day. It is also okay to take it with or without food. It is also important to swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or split the tablet; this can damage the protective coating and affect the way the medication works.
